Module 4. Pedagogy in Human Rights and its Application in Eco-citizenship

The course provides a pedagogical basis for educational training on human rights, identifying the main approaches and methodologies for its implementation. It has two sections: the first one aimed at developing aspects related to human rights pedagogy and, the second, to its practical application in the field of eco-citizenship.

The course is addressed with a theoretical, practical and formative example in the treatment of the human right to the environment to promote and strengthen eco-citizenship, understood as citizen awareness, the sense of belonging and global responsibility for the achievement of a sustainable, fair and equitable society.

Justification

It can be affirmed that the environment contributes to strengthening the dignity and enjoyment of human rights, such as the right to life and other rights. The right to a safe, clean and sustainable healthy environment is a third-generation human right.

If this right is not guaranteed for all people, injustices, inequalities and risks that threaten human dignity could be incurred. Placing human rights at the center of environmental action is crucial.

General Objective

Learn about human rights education, its pedagogy and its practical application in the right to the environment, which allows the formation of a responsible eco-citizenship.

Specific Objectives

The students of the course will:

- Learn theoretical-methodological criteria to understand and apply the pedagogy of human rights education.

- Analyze the pedagogy of human rights education in the study of the right to the environment and eco-citizenship.

- Strengthen citizen competencies for the promotion, exercise and defense of human rights, from an eco-citizenship perspective.
